Terms of Use

1. Scope

These terms govern the use of the Ehemalige platform (available at ehemalige.org), operated by Today is Life, Guido [SURNAME] (hereinafter "operator").

By registering, you accept these terms. Ehemalige is an alumni platform connecting former classmates in German-speaking regions.

2. Registration and account

2.1 Requirements

• You must be at least 16 years old.
• Only one account is allowed per person.
• The information provided during registration must be truthful.

2.2 Sign-in via magic link

Sign-in to Ehemalige works exclusively via a magic link sent by email. No password is required or stored. You are responsible for protecting access to your email account.

2.3 Real-name policy

Ehemalige depends on people recognizing each other again. Therefore, using your real name is mandatory. Obvious fake names or abusive name creations can lead to suspension.

3. Rules of use

On Ehemalige, the rule is: Be respectful, like meeting again on the schoolyard.

3.1 Explicitly prohibited

• Creating fake profiles or multiple accounts
• Insulting, harassing or threatening other people
• Publishing racist, discriminatory, glorifying violence or otherwise unlawful content
• Sending spam, advertising or unsolicited commercial messages
• Publishing personal data of other members without their consent
• Using the platform for illegal purposes
• Performing automated access (bots, scrapers)

3.2 Consequences of violations

In case of violations, the operator reserves the right to:

• Remove content
• Issue warnings
• Suspend an account temporarily or permanently

4. User content

4.1 Your copyright

You retain full copyright to all content you publish on Ehemalige (texts, photos, files). Ehemalige does not claim ownership of your content.

4.2 License to use

By posting content, you grant the operator a simple, non-exclusive, revocable license to display and transmit that content as part of operating the platform (e.g. showing your post in a cohort room, delivering your message to its recipient).

This license ends as soon as you delete the content or delete your account.

4.3 Responsibility

You are responsible for the content you post. Make sure you have the necessary rights for shared content (especially photos of other people).

5. Cohort rooms and verification

5.1 Cohort rooms

Cohort rooms are closed areas for specific school classes/cohorts. Access is granted via invitation by existing members or a join request that must be approved by a cohort room administrator.

5.2 Verification

To preserve the integrity of cohort rooms, the operator or a cohort room administrator may request verification of school affiliation. Members whose affiliation cannot be confirmed may be removed from the cohort room.

6. Operator liability

6.1 Availability

The operator aims for high platform availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, technical failures or force majeure may lead to temporary restrictions.

6.2 Limitation of liability

The operator’s liability is limited to intent and gross negligence. Liability for slight negligence exists only in case of breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to the foreseeable typical damage.

The operator assumes no liability for user-generated content (§§ 8-10 DDG).

6.3 Free use

The core functions of Ehemalige are free of charge. If paid premium features are introduced in the future, this will be communicated transparently and requires separate consent.

8. Termination and account deletion

8.1 Termination by you

You may delete your account at any time and without giving reasons in profile settings. Deletion takes effect immediately. Before deletion, you can download a data export.

8.2 Termination by operator

The operator may suspend or delete accounts if:

• these terms are violated,
• the account is obviously a fake profile,
• the account has been inactive for more than 24 months (after prior email notice).

8.3 Effects of deletion

After account deletion, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days. Posts in cohort rooms are anonymized. Messages already delivered remain with recipients in anonymized form.

9. Changes to the terms

The operator reserves the right to change these terms when necessary (e.g. due to platform extensions or legal changes).

You will be informed about material changes by email and via a notice on the platform. The amended terms are considered accepted unless you object within 4 weeks after they take effect. This consequence will be highlighted in the change notice.

10. Final provisions

10.1 Governing law

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

10.2 Jurisdiction

To the extent legally permissible, the place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising out of or in connection with these terms is the operator’s registered seat.

10.3 Severability clause

If individual provisions of these terms are or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected. The invalid provision shall be replaced by a valid provision that comes closest to the economic purpose of the invalid provision.
